About HECC
USA Hockey

HECC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was created at the request of USA Hockey in 1978. The purpose for creating HECC was to establish an independent certification body for amateur hockey equipment, primarily head protection. USA Hockey (USAH) mandates the use of HECC Certified Equipment. A number of interested volunteers representing several professional organizations also participated in establishing HECC, which as an independent organization, has its own Constitution, By-Laws, and Executive Committee.

The HECC certification program validates the manufacturers' certification that the equipment they produce has been tested and meets the requirements of the most appropriate performance standards. Because there are so many different types of equipment on the market, the HECC certification label advises the consumer that the equipment passes all tests indicating that the equipment meets the performance criteria specific to the body areas it was designed to protect, at the time it was submitted for testing. HECC certified equipment is recognition of the HECC certification process. HECC certified equipment is required by USA Hockey, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), and NCAA (facemasks only).
